As the open-wheel formula car used in all six Skip Barber Race Series Championships, the Formula Skip Barber 2000 has played a part in launching the careers of Champ Car star A.J. Allmendinger, Indy Racing League celebrity Marco Andretti and Scott Speed, the first American to break into Formula One in over a decade. Other Skip Barber Racing School graduates include Juan Pablo Montoya, Jeff Gordon, Todd Bodine and Kasey Kahne.
The Skip Barber 2000 features a 150-horsepower, four-cylinder Dodge engine. The car weighs in at 1,250 lbs. and is built on a tubular space-frame. It is powered by a 2.0-liter, single-overhead-cam power plant that is mated to a five-speed sequential gearbox. Capable of speeds up to 135 mph, the Skip Barber 2000 accelerates from a standstill to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and through 100 mph in less than 10 seconds.
