Virginia International Raceway

Residing on the border of Virginia and North Carolina, Virginia International Raceway (VIR) is presently enjoying its second life. Originally built in 1957, the 3.2-mile track had 12 turns dubbed the "Dangerous Dozen" and 130 feet of elevation change.

In 2000, after a 26-year hiatus, the circuit was revived, maintaining much of its original character. With five new configurations varying in length from 1.1 to 3.27 miles, the official corner count for the full circuit is now at 17, and the track is wider, smoother and safer, thanks to expanded run-off areas. As a "true driver's track," however, it still has the power to challenge and thrill both seasoned veterans and wide-eyed novices.
